In the morning I drove to Arcadia for my follow up eye exam at The Eye Shop. I passed! Afterwards I had planned to buy some drinks from Honey Boba for Peian & Branden, but the place didn’t open until 12. Boo!
For lunch, Peian wanted to try Bamboo Bistro in Corona Del Mar, which was owned by the same owner as Brodard in Westminster. Brodard eh? Of course that means we have to try their spring rolls. So we got an order of the grilled pork and soft shell crab spring rolls. I don’t know what it was, but I think I prefer the spring rolls from Brodard more. We also ordered the chicken curry and the spicy garlic noodles with beef. I really shouldn’t be drinking too much sweet stuff, but I couldn’t hold back. They had a lychee smoothie with orange juice on the menu and I just had to, absolutely had to order it. I’m still really full from lunch right now.
Okay, this is going to be a long post. I’m going to back track a bit to last weekend’s bachelorette party in Vegas for my friend Peian. We did a lot of partying and a lot of eating.
Our first meal was at my personal Vegas fave, Ichiza, which is a izakaya restaurant located off the strip on Spring Mountain Road in the heart of Chinatown. Cheap and yummy. Since we got there just a little after it opened for the day, we didn’t have to wait in line.
We were still full from Ichiza, but we made our way to our dinner reservation at Bouchon Bistro anyway. It was a good idea for us to take in more fuel so that we had enough energy to play at XS that night. Hmm…I don’t think our server was too happy with what we ordered though. There were six of us and we ordered only sides, appetizers, and I think one entree? Oh well.
Getting ready for XS.
Fast forward to the following evening, our dinner reservations were at STK in the Cosmopolitan Hotel. The wait for the food was an hour too long. So long that I was full after the first two bites of my steak. Sad right? The restaurant itself was a lot of fun though. There was a DJ spinning and our server Collin was very entertaining.
Party destination for Saturday night was Marquee. The club has four levels and we only got to see two. Why? Because the club had too many damn stairs and not enough elevators. We did see mermaids though. Oh and Dash Berlin was there too.
Before we left Vegas on Sunday, we had brunch at Max Brenner. Oh how I love the mac n’ cheese there. I feel like I OD’ed on mac n’cheese this weekend.
I forget how much fun it is to party all night with the girls. I have to do this more often before I get any older. It took me almost a whole week to recuperate.
Normally, I steer away from hot pot during the summer months, but I couldn’t resist the buy 2 get 1 free promotion at Boiling Point in Hacienda Heights. Thank you Leesa for sharing the info on your FB. We ordered 5 individual hot pots, 3 drinks, and an extra plate of tofu and the bill only came out to $50. I feel like I should go back again today.
I woke up this morning feeling groggy and irritable even though I slept for about 10 hours. I think it had a lot to do with all the junk that I ate this weekend.
On Friday night, Judy and I went to the OC Fair and split a turkey leg, some deep fried kool-aid and a Krispy Kreme chicken sandwich. If I was 40 years older, I think that combination of food probably would have given me a heart attack.
My second unhealthy meal was at Delicious Food Corner, a HK style cafe a few blocks from my house. I eat here often enough so I didn’t bother to take any pictures. All I have to say is that house special vermicelli, deep fried chicken wings, and a red bean delight does not make a healthy afternoon lunch. I feel fat just thinking about that meal.
Two hours later, I had dinner at Newport Seafood Restaurant with my family for my aunt’s birthday. What is the one thing that has to be ordered at this restaurant? A monster size lobster.
Oh and then there are the other dishes.
Knowing that I had already consumed so much delicious, but unhealthy, food already I should have exercised a little more self control today. Yea…didn’t happened. Peian and I went to Sinbala and split a platter of Taiwanese sausages (with the garlic), green onion pancakes, pan fried radish cake and shaved ice (with the condensed milk). I think I need to go to the gym a few more times this week.
Earlier today, Jennifer and I did a little bit of shopping at the Unique LA event held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. The event features various local designers in fashion, jewelry, crafts and even gourmet sweets. I bought a few greeting cards, beauty scrubs and candies, and also scored a few free tickets to the OC Fair.
Although the space was pretty big and open, it still felt a little warm and stuffy, which somehow drove my allergies a little overboard. I hope that at the next Unique LA event I’ll be able to do a little bit more shopping (allergy free).
