Sweet Butter Toast

Hmm…food, travel, books, and just random stuff that I like.

Traffic and security at LAX were smooth today. My flight landed early and my cousins were only 20 minutes late at picking me up from the airport. I think this Labor Day weekend is going to be alright.

Wendy, Lina and I had dinner at Oyaji tonight. We ordered way too much and because SF is such an environmentally friendly city, I felt a little bad about asking for boxes. Will everyone please remind me not to eat too much this weekend? PLEASE!

OC Fair & Newport Seafood Restaurant August 8, 2011

I woke up this morning feeling groggy and irritable even though I slept for about 10 hours. I think it had a lot to do with all the junk that I ate this weekend.

On Friday night, Judy and I went to the OC Fair and split a turkey leg, some deep fried kool-aid and a Krispy Kreme chicken sandwich. If I was 40 years older, I think that combination of food probably would have given me a heart attack.

My second unhealthy meal was at Delicious Food Corner, a HK style cafe a few blocks from my house. I eat here often enough so I didn’t bother to take any pictures. All I have to say is that house special vermicelli, deep fried chicken wings, and a red bean delight does not make a healthy afternoon lunch. I feel fat just thinking about that meal.

Two hours later, I had dinner at Newport Seafood Restaurant with my family for my aunt’s birthday. What is the one thing that has to be ordered at this restaurant? A monster size lobster.

Oh and then there are the other dishes.

Knowing that I had already consumed so much delicious, but unhealthy, food already I should have exercised a little more self control today. Yea…didn’t happened. Peian and I went to Sinbala and split a platter of Taiwanese sausages (with the garlic), green onion pancakes, pan fried radish cake and shaved ice (with the condensed milk). I think I need to go to the gym a few more times this week.

I decided to go to work on my birthday this year and be completely unproductive. Not that I really had to try or anything since very few of our clients called in today. I thought someone had unplugged my phone and blocked all my emails somehow. Oh well…I’m sure this is the calm before the storm. I’m guessing I’ll probably be stressed out to the point of wanting to pull out my hair next week. Anyhoo. I groggily dragged myself into the office this morning to find a nice cup of vanilla latte waiting for me on my desk, courtesy of my dear friend Amy. Next, Tracy waltzed in with a pair of new earrings for me. For lunch, Andrew bought me In n’ Out. When I came home of work, Evey had mailed me the book that I was thinking about buying. Oh and somewhere in between, my book buddy Kristin emailed me an Amazon gift card. I also spent all day diligently thanking everyone on my FB for their birthday wishes, but I think I gave up sometime in the afternoon. A girl can only check her FB so often in one day.

Of course, there was my birthday dinner with the family. I decided to go to Tasty Garden in Alhambra since it was close and the food is usually pretty decent. Please see below for pics of my dinner.

貴妃雞

臘味煲仔飯

生炒骨

XO 四季豆

稻香小炒皇

避風塘炒蜆

XO 帶子蒸豆腐

I think that pretty much concludes my birthday festivities for this year…until Saturday anyways. Oh and thank god my parental units finally realize I don’t like birthday cakes.

BANN June 5, 2011

A few days ago I had dinner at Bann in Koreatown with a few of my high school friends. The restaurant was more upscale and spacious than any other Korean restaurant that I’ve been to. I’m used to the crowded, smoky, loud all you can eat type of Korean BBQ restaurants so Bann was a nice change of atmosphere for me. Of course to walk into an upscale Asian restaurant with a bar/lounge area with great service also means that you should expect to pay more than what your money is worth. We ordered the bulgogi, dak gui (I think that’s chicken right?), calamari, tofu, and the shaved ice. What stood out most to me was the tofu, not in a good way. The chef had came out to assembled the dish at our table, which had led me to believe that the tofu was going to amazing. Sadly, amazing it was not…well not to me anyway. I love soft tofu and Bann’s artisanal tofu tasted like a sponge. Aside from the tofu, Bann was a nice dining experience.
