Sweet Butter Toast

Hmm…food, travel, books, and just random stuff that I like.

I tried the dry hot pot at Tasty Dining in San Gabriel last night with Louise and Will. I think I like how the Wuhan people do their dry hot pot. The food was good and I didn’t smell like my dinner afterwards, but that might be because we had dinner early and there weren’t that many customers yet. Louise and I shared the lamb pot and Will ordered the vegetarian. I know the lamb was supposed to be the main focus in our pot, but I didn’t much care for it. MY MAIN FOCUS was the non-expensive stuff, the potatoes, celery, cauliflower, tofu and wide vermicelli. They soaked up the flavors well and were delicious. I’ll never look at potatoes and celery the same way ever again. Ok maybe that was a little exaggerated.

Last Monday I had lunch with Peian, Branden & Lena at Ichikawa in Chino Hills. According to P & B, there is usually a bit of a wait. Lucky for us, we didn’t have to deal with any lines because it was a Monday and everyone was at work. Lena and I ordered the 2 for 2. I believe it was $39.99 for two individual hot pots, a salad, an appetizer and a dessert. Great deal, no?  The spicy pork bone broth that I ordered was delicious. If I wasn’t so full from the meat, I probably would have been able to add the udon noodles to the broth too. Just imagine how yummy that would have been.

Normally, I steer away from hot pot during the summer months, but I couldn’t resist the buy 2 get 1 free promotion at Boiling Point in Hacienda Heights. Thank you Leesa for sharing the info on your FB. We ordered 5 individual hot pots, 3 drinks, and an extra plate of tofu and the bill only came out to $50. I feel like I should go back again today.
