Dark Descendent by Jenna Black is about a young woman in her mid-twenties, Nikki, that finds out she is a descendent of the Greek goddess Artemis. Nikki’s world is flipped upside down when she walks right into a world of supernatural beings claiming to be descendents of gods and accidentally acquires immortality.
My expectations for Dark Descendent wasn’t very high so I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself unable to put my Kindle down. Black’s story takes on a different twist to mythology by creating a world based on the descendents of the gods in modern day D.C. She gifts each character with some of the strengths and personalities traits of their supernatural predecessors so it is definitely interesting reading about how these characters use their powers for good or evil. I can’t help but wonder if any of the gods themselves are actually going to pop in to regulate the shenanigans their descendents are getting themselves into.
