MLK 2012 – San Francisco January 21, 2012

Last weekend my sister and I drove up to the Bay Area. We unloaded her stuff at her apartment in Berkeley for her last semester. Gosh my mini me is growing up so fast and is making me feel very old. The weather was beautiful in San Francisco and my three day weekend would have been perfect had I not got a speeding ticket on the 280 and then a parking ticket too on the same day. At least I did get to eat some good food and spend some quality time with a few friends and family.

On the way to SF, my sister and I stopped at Harris Ranch for dinner for the first time.

Saturday, I had brunch with a few friends at Town’s End (pics from my iPhone) by Pier 38.

After brunch, I introduced Judy to Daiso and Bi-Rite (pic from my iPhone).

Wendy had suggested we have dinner at The Tipsy Pig in the Marina area. Umm…the appetizers were good.

After I got my speeding ticket on Sunday, I had lunch with my sister and cousins at the On The Bridge restaurant in Japantown. The service was so slow.

As for dinner, I slowly drove myself back to Millbrae for some steak at Jerry and Grace’s house. Argh! I’m dreading the day that damn speeding ticket arrives in the mail. I hate traffic school, even if it’s online.

Last Monday I had lunch with Peian, Branden & Lena at Ichikawa in Chino Hills. According to P & B, there is usually a bit of a wait. Lucky for us, we didn’t have to deal with any lines because it was a Monday and everyone was at work. Lena and I ordered the 2 for 2. I believe it was $39.99 for two individual hot pots, a salad, an appetizer and a dessert. Great deal, no?  The spicy pork bone broth that I ordered was delicious. If I wasn’t so full from the meat, I probably would have been able to add the udon noodles to the broth too. Just imagine how yummy that would have been.

OMG! It was hot today.

In the morning I drove to Arcadia for my follow up eye exam at The Eye Shop. I passed! Afterwards I had planned to buy some drinks from Honey Boba for Peian & Branden, but the place didn’t open until 12. Boo!

For lunch, Peian wanted to try Bamboo Bistro in Corona Del Mar, which was owned by the same owner as  Brodard in Westminster. Brodard eh? Of course that means we have to try their spring rolls. So we got an order of the grilled pork and soft shell crab spring rolls. I don’t know what it was, but I think I prefer the spring rolls from Brodard more. We also ordered the chicken curry and the spicy garlic noodles with beef. I really shouldn’t be drinking too much sweet stuff, but I couldn’t hold back. They had a lychee smoothie with orange juice on the menu and I just had to, absolutely had to order it. I’m still really full from lunch right now.

California Gift Show & Urth Caffe July 24, 2011

I had the opportunity to do some serious shopping at the California Gift Show at the LA Convention Center today. I don’t always buy jewelry, but when I do, I buy in bulk. I bought four rings, a pair of earrings, a bracelet and two charms. My favorite booth was the one selling vintage repurposed jewelry. I found the coolest recycled steampunk spinning ring there.

After shopping around for almost 4 hours, we decided to have an afternoon snack (my lunch) at Urth Caffe. Yes. This was my first time there and I think I kinda liked it.

My panini caprese was good, but they can ease off on the pesto just a bit.

Jen's soup. Looks like pumpkin, but apparently it wasn't. I'm not really sure what type of soup this is.
