Sweet Butter Toast

Hmm…food, travel, books, and just random stuff that I like.

Chotto Izakaya August 16, 2012

On Saturday, my cousins and I had dinner at Chotto, an izakaya located in the Marina area of San Francisco. I had wanted to try the food here since it opened (was it early or mid last year?). The dishes were on the pricier side compared to the izakayas in LA, but I was dining in the Marina. It shouldn’t have been a surprise. The food was good so I have no complaints. Okay that was a lie. I didn’t particularly care for the insane amount of cabbage that was sitting on the bottom of my bowl of ramen. Oh and was it weird that everyone in my family ordered their own bowl of ramen? I did quite enjoy the bacon mochi and the gyutan (it’s tongue, don’t judge me) though.

The lanterns separating our private room from the rest of the restaurant.

Hakate Sarada

Gyutan

Kushiyaki Sampler (kamo, kyu, negima, tontoro)

Bacon Mochi

Agedashi Tofu

Karamiso Tonkotsu – I added the egg.

I think I’m going to attempt to make the bacon mochi at home. Wish me luck.

Kosuke March 18, 2012

Kosuke is a small ramen restaurant that is located next to the old Edwards theater on Main and Atlantic. I’ve passed by this place a few times but didn’t know they served ramen until my friends visiting from SF ate there a few nights ago. They liked it so much they had to eat it again before they headed home and I’m glad they did, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have had a chance to try the ramen until god knows when. One of the dishes that I thought was pretty unique was their truffle oil edamame. Not only was it delicious, it cost $4.75 and the chef only makes it if he feels like it. How do I know this? Well… when my friends ordered the first order, the waitress said she had to go ask the chef. He said “yes”. When we try to order a second dish, the waitress asked and the chef said “no”. Oh well. At least we got the first dish right?

Isn't their tea pot the cutest thing ever? I think so.

The truffle oil edamame. Delicious. Good luck if you try to order this.

I ordered the spicy ramen with chasu and extra butter. Can you see the butter? So fattening but so delicious.

Kuro ramen with chasu and extra corn.

Ramen with chasu. No extra topping.

Grace and I had dinner at Sushi Ichi in Pasadena today. We ordered the sashimi plate, agadeshi tofu, and grilled shishito peppers. I obviously did not read the menu or the Yelp review close enough, otherwise I would have noticed that they served uni with quail egg. We missed out!

MLK 2012 – San Francisco January 21, 2012

Last weekend my sister and I drove up to the Bay Area. We unloaded her stuff at her apartment in Berkeley for her last semester. Gosh my mini me is growing up so fast and is making me feel very old. The weather was beautiful in San Francisco and my three day weekend would have been perfect had I not got a speeding ticket on the 280 and then a parking ticket too on the same day. At least I did get to eat some good food and spend some quality time with a few friends and family.

On the way to SF, my sister and I stopped at Harris Ranch for dinner for the first time.

Saturday, I had brunch with a few friends at Town’s End (pics from my iPhone) by Pier 38.

After brunch, I introduced Judy to Daiso and Bi-Rite (pic from my iPhone).

Wendy had suggested we have dinner at The Tipsy Pig in the Marina area. Umm…the appetizers were good.

After I got my speeding ticket on Sunday, I had lunch with my sister and cousins at the On The Bridge restaurant in Japantown. The service was so slow.

As for dinner, I slowly drove myself back to Millbrae for some steak at Jerry and Grace’s house. Argh! I’m dreading the day that damn speeding ticket arrives in the mail. I hate traffic school, even if it’s online.

Traffic and security at LAX were smooth today. My flight landed early and my cousins were only 20 minutes late at picking me up from the airport. I think this Labor Day weekend is going to be alright.

Wendy, Lina and I had dinner at Oyaji tonight. We ordered way too much and because SF is such an environmentally friendly city, I felt a little bad about asking for boxes. Will everyone please remind me not to eat too much this weekend? PLEASE!

Assorted Sashimi

Agedeshi Tofu

Aspara Beef

Monica Roll

Oyaji Beef

Sunagimo

Tatsuta Age
